WEST PALM BEACH, FLA — First-year Nationals manager Dave Martinez is very familiar with right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta, a free agent who signed a three-year deal earlier this week with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Arrieta made his Major League debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2010 and then was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2013. It turned to be a horrible trade for the Orioles, as Arrieta won 22 games and the Cy Young Award in 2015 with a 1.77 ERA. He then went 14-10 last season with Chicago even though his ERA rose to 3.
