Nationals sign P Jeremy Guthrie to minors deal

The Washington Nationals signed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, the team announced Friday.

Financials of the deal were undisclosed, although ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported it includes an opt-out clause if Guthrie is not added to the major league roster by March 27.

Guthrie, who will turn 38 in April, spent the entire 2016 season in the minors. He registered a 7.17 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 86u2154 innings for the Triple-A affiliates of the San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins.
