Eyes on the prize: Scherzer, Corbin lift Nationals to doubleheader sweep

The Nationals decided that Max Scherzer with a broken nose and a black eye was better than any alternative — and the ace proved them right Wednesday night.

Scherzer, who broke his nose Tuesday during batting practice, went seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 2-0 win in nightcap of a day-night doubleheader.

With fans chanting “Let’s go Max!” in top of the seventh, Scherzer fanned pinch-hitter J.T. Realmuto on a slider with a runner on second base for his third straight strikeout and 10th of the game.
