Dodgers to acquire reliever Madson from Nats

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers traded for right-handed reliever Ryan Madson from the Nationals on Friday, in time for him to be eligible for the postseason, according to a baseball source. The clubs have not confirmed a deal. The Dodgers will send Minor League pitcher Andrew Istler to Washington in the deal.

The 38-year-old Madson was placed on revocable waivers earlier this week and the Dodgers put a claim in with the belief the veteran will be an upgrade to a beleaguered bullpen down the stretch. Madson has about $1.3 million remaining on a three-year contract and will be a free agent after this season.
