Catching depth a concern for struggling Nationals

After ace pitcher Max Scherzer came off the injured list Aug. 22 and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman returned Sept. 1, it seemed the Washington Nationals were getting healthy just in time.

Now the Nationals have a depth problem at catcher, where veteran Kurt Suzuki missed his sixth game in a row with right elbow inflammation as the Nationals lost 10-1 to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

The Nationals hope he can take batting practice soon.

“Once we do that, we can see how far we can push him to be ready,” manager Dave Martinez told reporters.
