Baseball historian: Kendrick homer in NLDS biggest in D.C. history

Howie Kendrick’s grand slam to help the Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the N.L. Division Series on Wednesday was the biggest in D.C. history, according to one historian.

Phil Wood, who grew up in Northern Virginia, has followed pro baseball in the nation’s capital for decades. He said the homer by Kendrick was bigger than the one Jayson Werth hit against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012 in the N.L. Championship Series.

“I’d always thought Werth’s homer in 2012 was memorable, but not as overall significant since they lost that series,” according to Wood, a MASN contributor.
