Nationals Rumors: Nationals in the trade market for a shortstop?

In this Nationals rumors and news update, the Washington Nationals have been awfully quiet with two weeks to go before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.

However, one position they could look to addressing with a mid-level type move could be shortstop - especially if they doubt their chances of signing Ian Desmond after he hits free agency in the winter of 2015.

According to Connor Jones of iSportsWeb, "Washington could target Didi Gregorious, Nick Ahmed, and Chris Owings. To entice the D-Backs into moving one of these players, Washington may look to trade catcher Sandy Leon or outfielder Steven Souza Jr."

This is all purely speculative at this point, as no one truly knows either the Nationals' intentions with Desmond going forward or his own thought process going into his walk year. He has indicated that he would like to remain in Washington for the rest of career, but the business of baseball can change hearts and minds quickly.

Gregorius and Owings seem to be perpetually on the trade market - possibly giving the Nationals a little time to think about swinging a deal with Arizona, even if it means putting off such a trade until the offseason.
