Washington wins 2-1 in women’s soccer when Pascale Dumesnil scores late

Pascale Dumesnil scored with less than three minutes remaining as the Washington women’s soccer team pulled out a 2-1 home victory Sunday over Santa Clara.

Dumesnil took a pass from Dominique Bond-Flasza in front of the net and pushed the ball past the Santa Clara goalkeeper to lift the Huskies’ record this season to 2-1.

“I couldn’t be happier for our team,” said UW coach Lesle Gallimore. “I thought they really upped their game in the second half and that was a big home win for us.”

After the Broncos (2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first half, the Huskies tied it in the 49th minute when Becca Schaoles scored on a header off an assist from Amanda Johnson.
