As he approached the finish line in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday, University of Oregon track and field senior Tanguy Pepiot looked around, didn’t see anyone and thought he had to be alone.
He was wrong.
With the Ducks competing against athletes from Washington and Kentucky at the Pepsi Team Invitational, Pepiot had taken what he assumed to be an insurmountable lead in front of cheering fans at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
He began celebrating, waving his arm in an attempt to get the crowd to make even more noise for the native of Besancon, France, as he crossed the finish line.
