UW baseball without star pitcher Troy Rallings to start NCAA tournament

The Huskies, back in the postseason for the second time in three years, play UC Santa Barbara on Friday but will be without All-American closer Troy Rallings.

A disappointing finish to the regular season on Sunday preceded more bad news for the Washington baseball team in the buildup to its return to the NCAA tournament.

UW closer Troy Rallings, named Thursday the Pac-12 pitcher of the year, won’t be available for this weekend’s Nashville Regional at Vanderbilt because of muscle soreness in his right (pitching) forearm and elbow.

“I mean, you’re talking about the best closer in the country,” UW coach Lindsay Meggs said Thursday in Nashville.
