Rehabbing injuries toughened up Huskies star runner Amy-Eloise Neale

Washington star runner Amy-Eloise Neale is among the finalists at the Sports Star of the Year banquet.

There were days when one of the finest cross-country runners the University of Washington has known would ask herself whether it was worth it.

Amy-Eloise Neale was grinding through an 18-month injury layoff in 2015 when rehabilitating her legs — on an exercise bike, in form-running drills and even inside a therapeutic tub — began getting to her. By the time she’d overcome a stress fracture and assorted shin and knee problems to begin her junior season, she realized the toughness required to race was nothing compared with what she had just been through.
