Pennsylvania man waives hearing in fake DUI checkpoint case

SOMERSET, Pa. — A man charged with setting up a fake drunken-driving checkpoint while pretending to be a Pennsylvania state trooper must now stand trial.

State troopers from Somerset say 19-year-old Logan Shaulis was drunk when he parked his vehicle diagonally across state Route 601 and set up road flares at about 4 a.m. on May 30.

A motorist who stopped says Shaulis claimed he was a trooper with the “drug and alcohol division” and demanded to see a driver’s license, registration and insurance papers.

When police arrived, police say Shaulis tried to hand a BB pistol to the car’s passenger, saying he couldn’t get caught with it.
