Gaines has become a key player for the Huskies. He had 10 tackles against Utah in 2015, started each game last season and earned the team’s L. Wait Rising lineman of the year award. He has started each game this year as well.
Football players’ decisions to take a knee over the past year have generated enormous controversy, positive and negative, but University of Washington defensive lineman Greg Gaines received only an absolutely awesome response. And for good reason. Why? Because he did not take the knee during the national anthem before a game. Instead, he simply was following a longtime tradition by kneeling down to propose marriage to his girlfriend, Sheyeann.
