Huskies defender Justin Fiddes drafted by Vancouver in first round

Washington defender Justin Fiddes was selected in the first round as the 17th overall pick by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday.

Fiddes is the second Husky picked to play in the MLS from the 2017 squad after Handwalla Bwana signed as a homegrown player with Sounders FC last week. Overall, Fiddes is the 13th Washington player selected in the MLS draft or signed homegrown over the past five seasons.

“Fiddes has all the tools to play in the MLS for a long time,” said UW coach Jamie Clark. “He has the pace to influence the game on either side of the ball and own the wide areas of the field.
