HALA’s proposal: Readers weigh in on housing affordability plan

Focus density in accommodating areas

The underlying assumption of Mayor Ed Murray’s Housing Affordability and Livability Advisory (HALA) Committee report seems to be that single-family zoning in Seattle is outdated and no longer viable ["Racism is a false issue in Seattle’s land-use zoning," Opinion, July 22].

The report, in essence, recommends that single-family zoning be abolished. Seattle’s neighborhoods are a precious and irreplaceable resource. They have been the foundation of this city for many decades and are a key part of what makes Seattle so special.

There are alternatives to this recommendation and the other draconian measures recommended in the HALA report.
