Firefighters work to contain wildfire east of Walla Walla

Around 1,000 firefighters continued to battle a 6,140-acre fire east of Walla Walla Friday that triggered the evacuation of about 120 residents and burned down one home since it began Monday.

The blaze, known as the Blue Creek Fire, grew by 10 percent overnight, but containment doubled to 10 percent.

The wildfire started Monday afternoon in the area of Blue Mountain Road and Klicker Mountain Road, about nine miles east of Walla Walla. Along with the destroyed home on Klicker Mountain road, it burned seven outbuildings and resulted in the evacuation of about 120 residents from the Blue Creek-Klicker Mountain Road area.
