Commuter train hits vehicle in Puyallup, kills 1 woman

PUYALLUP — A BNSF Railway spokesman says one woman has died after a northbound commuter train struck a vehicle in the Puyallup area.

Spokesman Gus Melonas says the Sound Transit train operated by BNSF crews hit a vehicle around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

The train was headed from Tacoma to Seattle. No crew members or passengers aboard the train were injured.

Melonas says it’s not clear whether there were other occupants in the vehicle.

Passenger and train traffic in the area has been temporarily halted while the crash is investigated.
