A section of Upper Columbia closes to fishing due to high loss of sockeye from warm water temperatures

State Fish and Wildlife will soon close a portion of the Upper Columbia River due to an high loss of sockeye from unusually warmer than normal water temperatures.

Sockeye fishing closes one hour after official sunset on Sunday (July 26) from the Rocky Reach Dam up to Chief Joseph Dam.

The closure is necessary to protect and ensure enough sockeye bound for the Okanogan River make it to spawning grounds once the water temperatures cool down.
