The Washington Redskins activated defensive end Stephen Bowen on Saturday, ending a long road to recovery for the 30-year-old.

Bowen had micofracture surgery on his right knee last season. At his age, many doubters thought it could very well be the end of his career.

“It’s been a hard road back,” he said Friday, via ESPN.com's John Keim. “I finally feel healthy and I’m ready to get out there and have fun.”

Per Keim, Bowen "gives Washington more depth up front, something it could use. Plus, if he’s healthy and playing to his previous level, then Bowen and Jason Hatcher could provide more push inside in nickel packages. At least that’s what the Redskins hope."

Bowen's pass-rush skills have fallen off a bit since his 6.5 sacks of three years ago, but he could still give the Redskins 10-15 quality snaps a game if he remains healthy.
