Redskins won't reach deal with Scherff before deadline

The Washington Redskins reportedly won’t reach a long-term deal with right guard Brandon Scherff ahead of this year’s deadline for players given the franchise tag.

Teams have until Wednesday to reach an agreement, but ESPN reported Monday that Washington “will wait” until after the 2020 season to attempt to sign Scherff to an extension.

In March, Washington placed the franchise tag on Scherff, worth nearly $15 million for one year.

The fifth overall pick from 2015, Scherff is coming off a shoulder injury that limited him to only 11 games in 2019. He has missed 13 games total over the last two years.
