Redskins select USC outside linebacker/safety Su'a Cravens in second round

ASHBURN — The Washington Redskins selected USC outside linebacker and safety Su’a Cravens with the 22nd pick in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday.

Cravens, who declared for the draft after his junior season, recorded 207 tackles, nine interceptions and 16 pass deflections. At the NFL scouting combine, Cravens talked extensively about playing the hybrid position and said he is comfortable playing either one. He is 6 feet and 226 pounds.

Considering how often teams are in nickel defense packages, Craven’s versatility could be a strong asset to the Redskins’ defense. He compares himself to the Arizona Cardinals Deone Bucannon, who plays a very similar hybrid role.
