Redskins add veteran DE Ziggy Hood

Looking to improve depth along the defensive line with several veterans set to become free agents, the Redskins have signed former Pittsburgh Steeler Ziggy Hood, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

A first-round pick of out of Missouri in 2009, Hood, 28, spent five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining Jacksonville for the 2014 season. He began last season on injured reserve because of a foot injury. Jacksonville eventually released Hood, who went on to sign with Chicago and suited up for two games.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive end has started 46 of 98 games, recording 164 tackles, 12.
