Preparing for first opening-day start since college, Kirk Cousins ‘enjoying the process’

The past two weeks, Kirk Cousins has found himself in an unfamiliar position: Preparing to open a season as his team’s starting quarterback, for the first time since his senior year at Michigan State.

During the three previous seasons with Washington, Cousins has always tried to approach games as if he would start, even if he wasn’t expected to. But there’s a different feeling now, Cousins admits.

He will not pretend the feeling isn’t there. Instead, he will savor the moment while maintaining the understanding of the task at hand. But taking a brief pause is important as well, the quarterback says.
