Jay Gruden defends coaching gambles as players praise aggressiveness

DALLAS -- The decisions were curious and didn’t work out. The natural inclination is to rip the coach. Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden certainly left himself open to second-guessing after taking gambles that even at the time seemed curious.

Full disclosure: I didn’t like the 55-yard field-goal attempt with a kicker who hasn’t been in the same groove; I did not like the onside kick almost midway through the fourth quarter. Neither move worked out, and both failures left the Dallas Cowboys in great field position -- once at their own 45-yard line, the other time at their 47.
