It’s not uncommon for an NFL veteran’s production to ebb after he signs a multi-million-dollar contract extension. Whether consciously or subconsciously, some regard a well-earned payday as proof that their place on the team is secure and they don’t have to put forth quite the same effort.
That hasn’t been the case for Trent Williams, the Redskins’ three-time Pro Bowl left tackle, who signed a six-year, $66 million deal heading into the 2015 season. And it’s not likely to be.
Williams has been one of the squad’s more durable, dedicated starters since Washington chose him fourth overall in the 2010 draft, determined to play through injury whether it’s early in a promising season or late in a losing season.
