Commanders to unveil mascot next season

The Washington Commanders plan on unveiling a mascot next season, but the team won’t do so until later in the campaign.

The Commanders announced Monday that the mascot would be revealed Jan. 1 for a Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns at FedEx Field. The team said there will be a “season-long fan engagement program” to help select the mascot, adding that details of that program will be unveiled later this summer.

The Burgundy and Gold rebranded to the Commanders in February after being known as the Washington Football Team for two seasons. The team’s former moniker, the Washington Redskins, was abandoned in July 2020.
