Chase Young out against Falcons

LANDOVER — Chase Young will not make his season debut Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons as the Washington Commanders downgraded him to out.

The defensive end, who tore his ACL more than a year ago, was listed as questionable entering the matchup. But the Commanders decided to hold Young out at least another week. Young developed an illness over the past few days, which reportedly contributed to Washington’s decision to keep Young inactive.

The Commanders had activated Young to the team’s active roster last Monday after three weeks of the pass-rusher returning to practice. Young appeared to make strides this past week as coach Ron Rivera said the former defensive rookie of the year’s practice reps had increased.
