3 free agent safeties the Redskins should consider signing in 2019

In 2018, it seemed like the Redskins finally had something figured out at the safety position. D.J. Swearinger was performing at a high level and could have made the Pro Bowl. They traded for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix before the trade deadline to add depth to their squad and push Montae Nicholson into a backup role. They finally had depth at talent. But then, things started to unravel.

Swearinger’s outspoken nature became a problem in the locker room. He repeatedly questioned coaches and teammates to the media and after one late-season instance in which he called out Greg Manusky, he was cut.
