The 4 Things The Redskins Need To Address This Offseason

The NFL season is now over, but it's been over for a few weeks now for the Washington Redskins. The team has already turned its attention away from a season in which they just made the playoffs, but were bounced in the first round.

The Redskins will have plenty of cap space when they make a few cuts, but also have some key free agents to resign. The offseason isn't just about free agency, as the team will need to add a few productive players in the NFL Draft as well. With that in mind, we're here to detail four things the Redskins must address this offseason.

4. Secondary

Bashaud Breeland played well before going down, and getting Chris Culliver healthy could help in the slot. But the team needs to find a No. 2 corner to pair with Breeland. The team's safeties weren't great this year, and a early-to-mid round pick could be a big help. Spending multiple picks on the defensive secondary is a real option for the Redskins this offseason,

3. Linebacker

Let's start with the positive; Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Murphy and Preston Smith are a pretty good three-headed attack at OLB. The bad news is that the team has nothing worthwhile at MLB. Perry Riley, Mason Foster, Will Compton and Keenan Robinson shoudn't be starting. Robinson and Foster were the two best (although that's not saying much) and they are free agents. The team must find at least one new starter at MLB, preferably two.

2. Center

Kory Lichtensteiger was just awful this season and Josh LeRibeus wasn't much better. The team has to find an upgrade at center, either in the draft or free agency. For more on the Redskins' offseason plans, download the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app

1. Quarterback

This is actually a multi-step process. The first is cutting Robert Griffin III and saving over $16 million in cap space in the process. The second is making sure Kirk Cousins returns next season. The franchise tag is an option, but the team would much rather work out a long-term deal. Ideally, it's a contract similar to the type of deal Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton signed. The final step is getting a backup. The easiest option is to just resign Colt McCoy.
