3 Reasons Why The Redskins Won't Make The Playoffs

All 32 NFL teams head into training camp with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations. Only a select few will actually turn such aspirations into reality. The Redskins aren't one of them. Here's 3 Reasons Why The Washington Redskins Won't Make The Playoffs Next Season.

3. Defense! Defense?

The Washington Redskins' pass defense was one or two steps away from an all-out dumpster fire in 2014, finishing 24th in total thanks to a less-than-middling pass rush and an inability to force turnovers either through the air or on the ground. Washington took major steps to correct these deficiencies in free agency, latching onto DT Terrance Knighton, CB Chris Culliver and S Dashon Golson with the help of Daniel Snyder's checkbook(s). However, the onus is on those guys to produce at maximum efficiency or the entire defense is liable to fall apart. We're not holding out hope over the course of a sometimes random, always fickle NFL season.

2. The RGIII/Jay Gruden Dynamic

Robert Griffin III is still one of the most talented young quarterbacks in the league, injuries and inconsistencies aside. He's been given less than a fair shake with a multitude of personnel problems around him, however, and it doesn't help that head coach Jay Gruden is treating him like a workplace ex-girlfriend who he's forced to be (somewhat) cordial to in the public eye. A confident RGIII is a dangerous RGIII, but past experience tells us that he's going to near a near miracle to keep his confidence level afloat with Gruden breathing down his neck at every turn.

1. The NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys are locked and loaded again despite losing 2014 NFL rushing champion to another division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. Heck, even the NY Giants sported a top-ten offense last year and are a trendy playoff pick for many an NFL pundit. The Washington Redskins remain a mish-mash of talented pieces and Daniel Snyder oopsies, stuck in the mud while the rest of the NFC East pushes forward.
