The Washington Capitals did not play their best game of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, it didn’t matter because the Capitals beat the Lightning where it really matters: the scoreboard. The Capitals were able to get two early goals from Jay Beagle and Evgeny Kuznetsov. After that, they were able to hold off a late charge from the Lightning thanks to the stellar play of goaltender Braden Holtby.
The Capitals started the game off well in the first forty minutes. After the second period, the shots were roughly even. The Washington Capitals got outshot 15-1 in the third period.
