The Washington Capitals start the season with a win in Buffalo.

The Washington Capitals downed the Buffalo Sabres 6-4 to get their first win in the Peter Laviolette era. Every time the Sabres scored the Caps had an answer for them. The offense was awesome. Ilya Samsonov played a good game but let a few squeakers by him, stuff that comes with the first game jitters.

The Caps got on the board at 5:43. As Alex Ovechkin got tripped up he set Nicklas Backstrom with a perfect look in front of the net and he cashed in.
