Tom Wilson expected to play after Wednesday's match penalty

After receiving a match penalty late in the last five minutes of Wednesday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators, Capitals forward Tom Wilson isn’t expected to be suspended for the hit, and the Capitals, who said they had been in contact with the league, expect him to play Friday against Tampa Bay.

Wilson and Coach Barry Trotz said the main point-of-contact of Wilson’s hit was to Senators center Curtis Lazar’s hip and not to his head. The NHL did not confirm that Wilson’s match penalty had been rescinded.

Wilson’s frustration with the ejection was that it took him out of the game during a crucial situation.
