Stanislav Galiev reassigned to Hershey for conditioning purposes

The Washington Capitals have reassigned forward Stanislav Galiev to their American Hockey League affiliate in Hershey for conditioning purposes, the team announced on Friday. Because Galiev was sent down on a conditioning assignment, the 23-year-old Russian winger did not have to clear waivers, and his stint in Hershey can’t be longer than two weeks.

While on a conditioning loan, Galiev still receives his NHL salary. He played in two games with the Capitals this season and earned an assist on Oct. 15 against Chicago, but hasn’t played since. While traditionally used to get a player game reps after an injury, a conditioning assignment can also be a way to get a player some developmental work, giving them more ice time than they would otherwise get in the NHL.
