Kuznetsov Snaps Ovechkin’s Caps Points Leader Streak

For the first time in a decade, Alex Ovechkin did not sit atop the leaderboard for the Caps in the total points department, passing the crown to fellow Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Though Ovechkin is still the best goal-scorer in the NHL, his overall point output dropped to the second lowest of his career (not including the lockout-shortened season). In 79 games, he scored 50 goals and assisted on a career-low 21, for 71 points. His lowest output 2011-12 output was 38 goals and 27 assists for 65 points. In 2013-14, Ovechkin was tied with Backstrom with 79 points to lead the team.
