Jay Beagle undergoes successful hand surgery

Third-line center Jay Beagle had successful hand surgery on Saturday, and he is expected to resume “full hockey activities in six weeks,” the Washington Capitals announced. Beagle will resume full workout activities next week.

The six-week timeline would mean Beagle is likely to miss at least 20 games this season.

Beagle was injured late in the second period against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night. After the game, Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said Beagle would be out for “an extended period of time.” The team placed him on injured reserve on Thursday morning, clearing roster space for callups.
