Farewell, Brenden Dillon!

(Caps Outsider)

The Washington Capitals announced yesterday that they traded Brenden Dillon to the Winnipeg Jets for a couple of second-round draft choices.

This had to happen, as the Capitals need to free up salary cap space, as he had three years left on a four-year deal and a cap hit of $3.9 million. The Capitals left him exposed in the expansion draft, where they lost goalie Vitek Vanecek, but at least this way the Caps are getting a couple of picks for him instead of nothing.

The Caps are expected to sign Alex Ovechkin and goalie Ilya Samsonov very soon, and need that money to pay him and others.
