Chris Brown placed on waivers by Capitals

Capitals forward Chris Brown has been placed on waivers, meaning that if he isn’t claimed by another team in the 24-hour window, he will join the Capitals’ American Hockey League affiliate.

After breaking a finger in a fight during a preseason game, Brown, who spent most of last season in the AHL, had to stay in Washington as an injured non-roster player until he was medically cleared. Capitals Coach Barry Trotz had indicated that when the clearance came, Brown would be sent down to Hershey, which meant he would have to clear waivers.

But Washington then opted to reassign Brown for conditioning purposes; he couldn’t be in the AHL for more than two weeks, and he wouldn’t have to be exposed to waivers.
