The Caps pulled off what many teams in the NHL have been trying to do — beat the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets were on a 16 game winning streak until the Caps put that to rest Thursday at Verizon Center. If the Blue Jackets had won, they would have tied a 17 game winning streak held by the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1992-93 season, but that was not to be. The Caps shut out head coach John Tortorella and his Blue Jackets, 5-0 .
Caps goals scored by Daniel Winnik and John Carlson in the first period set the scene for the win.
