Capitals vs. Devils: How the Game Was Won

The Capitals have not had a ton of success this season with games that have gone past regulation, picking up just one win prior to last night (a 3-2 OT win over Tampa way back in mid-October). So the general sentiment heading into overtime in Newark last night, against one of the league’s better overtime/shootout teams, was likely that of dread.

But no one told Jakob Chychrun the Caps weren’t supposed to win that one, as a great individual effort by big #6 made sure the Caps emerged victorious with that all-important extra point.

With just about a minute remaining in overtime, Chychrun collected the puck in the neutral zone and turned on the jets – something we’ve seen out of him a time or two before, but made more impressive by the fact that he picked up that speed after already being on the ice for over a minute.
