The easy answer to the question “how did the Capitals lose last night’s game?” is simply “the shootout stinks and should be fired into the sun”…but it’s not really that simple, and the Caps did put up a decent fight in the shootout before giving up the winner to Nick Foligno (also, really??).
So let’s talk about what got them to the shootout in the first place, because this was a game that seemed so out of reach despite being a one-goal game for most of the night. Getting that singular point out of an otherwise lackluster performance was a big deal – and they managed that thanks to Ryan Leonard.
