Capitals sign Tom Wilson to 7-year, $45.5m Extension.

The Capitals made headlines Friday morning by announcing a new 7-year contract extension for star forward Tom Wilson, which carries an AAV of $6.5 million from the 2024-25 through 2030-31 seasons.

Drafted 16th in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Wilson quickly established himself as one of the hardest (and most notorious) hitters in the game, with top-six ability as a scorer too. In a statement, Capitals GM Brian MacLellan praised his work ethic, competitiveness and leadership qualities as assets that make him valuable to the organization.

The 29-year-old missed half of the 2022-23 season recovering from a torn ACL.
