Capitals fall in a shootout to the Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS — On a night when goaltender Braden Holtby suddenly seemed beatable, the Washington Capitals suffered a second consecutive loss for the first time this season, falling in a shootout to the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-4, on Saturday.

After T.J. Oshie scored for the Capitals in the decisive session, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom were both stopped. Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Johansen both scored on Holtby.

The Blue Jackets forced overtime when Brandon Saad beat Holtby for the second time with 68 seconds remaining. With the Columbus net vacant, Saad fired in a backhand to knot the game at 4.
