Capitals cut Zach Sill, Connor Carrick from training camp roster

With just two preseason games left, the Capitals slimmed down their training camp roster, cutting forward Zach Sill and defenseman Connor Carrick. Sill must clear waivers, but both will play in the American Hockey League.

Carrick played 73 games with Hershey last season, scoring eight goals and notching 34 assists, the most points among Bears defenseman. The 21-year-old played 34 games with the Capitals in 2013-14, tallying six points in that span.

The Capitals signed Sill to a two-way, one-year deal in July, hoping to bolster organizational depth up the middle. The 27-year-old logged his first full NHL season in 2014-15, splitting 63 games between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs after getting packaged for forward Daniel Winnik in late February.
