The Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals 4-0. This awarded them with the Price of Wales Trophy for winning the Eastern Conference. They are also awarded with a ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals where they will travel to play the Western champions, the Vegas Golden Knights.
This is the second time Washington has made the Stanley Cup finals, last time being in 1998 as the Detroit Redwings would go on to win the series 4-0 but we won’t talk about that.
