Bears Sign Cancer Survivor Logan Pyett

The Hershey Bears have signed defenseman Logan Pyett to an AHL contract for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Pyett, 30, was the captain of the WHL’s Regina Pats and played four seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins after being selected in the seventh round by the Detroit Red Wings in 2006.

After two seasons in the KHL, Pyett signed a contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the 2015-16 season, but never appeared in a game as he was diagnosed with a sarcoma, a form of cancer, in his upper leg. After a year off, Pyett returned to the ice last season with the Tohoku Free Blades in the Asia League last season, scoring 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 26 games.
