What is the purpose of taking a class? There are various reasons, such as fulfilling the divisional or the requirement of major, etc. But one of the reasons to take a class is interest. If this is the case, then the goal will be to learn as much information from the class as possible. Professors usually assign about two to three tasks for students to do throughout the semester. From what I have observed, students usually put a lot of effort into completing the assignments in order to receive a good grade. Very few students would ever think about whether they could learn more from the professor about the class even when class has finished.
