Campus sexual assault has gained national attention through the efforts of many brave activists taking their experiences all the way to the White House. Through their determination, President Obama and Vice President Biden have launched a national campaign called “It’s On Us” to help universities address the long-ignored problem of rape culture.
The campaign calls students to action by saying “it’s on us to stop sexual assault.” The intention of the campaign is to motivate people to take action, but the impact of the rhetoric “it’s on us” hurts survivors and allies by implying that it is on individuals to stop their own sexual assault.
