Although Dearica Hamby was the one drafted No. 6 overall to the San Antonio Stars, Wake Forest may have as much to celebrate as its former star foward.
“It got our name [Wake Forest] out there in a way that it has never been out there before,” head coach Jen Hoover said.
During and after the draft, recruits were texting Hoover, offering congratulations. Even before the draft, recruits were texting Hamby. If she is successful at the next level, young athletes will watch her develop and begin to associate her with the university she chose to attend the past four years.
