Deacon Profile: Steve Messier

Messier just received a $6 million grant for his research, the largest research grant in Wake Forest history.

How did you become interested in health and exercise science?

When I was an undergraduate, I had a civil engineering degree, and I have a Master’s degree in physical education and a Ph.D. in biomechanics. So, it combines engineering with health and exercises. So I now engineer the human body instead of building some bridges.

What is the main focus of your research?

The main focus of my research, for the last 25 years, has been older adults with osteoarthritis of their knees.
